wind conditions staying around 2-5 mph mostly out of the North, with very few direction changes. However, more beautiful than the weather was Matt’s scores! However, I am Looking forward to the 68th annual Neal Van Gelder Fall Round Up to be held next weekend (the 21st & 22nd) I know there will be many competitors shooting for the opportunity to earn their sweat shirt! Posted By: SSgt Cameron Keating USAF Shooting Team member We had some very close and competitive prone shooting at this weekend’s PTO! I had a great start in the morning with solid 10's in the sighting and preparation period, then I heard it... The wheels of Jr shooter Matt's gear bag, oh how he loves to be fashionably late, though his tardiness was understandable with the activities of the CHP fitness test, occupying our only access point into and out of the rang. Anyways, by the time he was setup I had already posted my first two competition strings a 99 & 98. All competitors shot incredibly well, and I would love to share pictures however, my digital camera seems to have met its end two nights earlier... Just FYI concrete floors are not healthy for any piece of modern technology. The match results are as follows: Kurt 590 with 34 Centers (scope) Matt 587 with 27 Centers Cameron 586 with 31 Centers Mike 584 with 28 Centers Jober 584 with 27 Centers John 580 with 23 Centers Rodger 579 with 23 Centers William 567 with 14 Centers All eight of these competitors shot extremely well! And after the competition they continued by shooting a 20 shot practice prone final. Photo courtesy of Mike Nies Posted BY: Cameron Keating USAF Shooting Team Member
Both matches were won by the USAF, Cam and Mark, 544 and 533. M1 top individual scorer was Mark, 277, and the M2 top scorers were Matt and Cam, 276.
High prone scores were Jober and William, 99, John and Jober had 98's. High standing was Mark with a 92, next was Cam with an 89. The kneeling high score was Matt with a 98, next ones were 92's-Matt again, Cam, Jober and Cam again. We appreciate Jober shooting along with Ellie, so we had a good number of teams. John may be shooting elsewhere for the Nov. 7-8 match, so we may have to "dig up" another senior from somewhere. Hope everyone else can make it. Any ideas for another senior, even someone who shoots high power? Hate to lose those senior records when they are there for the taking.(Nov. 7-8, 4-P, one target each day for each position, big A-23 50 yard targets.) In the meantime, while the real men were shooting 3-Position, others were shooting a Mini-Palma Club match using F-Class rests. This match uses properly reduced International Palma 1000, 900 and 800 yard centerfire targets to be shot at 100 yards with .22 competition rifles. Out of 450 points Bobby DePasque shot 450, Phil Massoris 448, and Richard Blankenship and Sgt. Ray Del Rio shot 446. All really good scores! The next NRA junior(open to anyone) match will be November 7-8 and will be for 4-Position(prone, standing, kneeling and sitting) competition on A-23 targets. Come out and join the fun! Submitted by Mel Flint Junior Match Director Windless, is the best way I can describe the weather this morning. For those that do not know the Prone PTO event always comes first and an opportunity to shoot on electronic targets is always welcomed in my book.
John with matching scores. We then had to use the Creedmore rule to see who had the most inner tens in their previous string and again that was a tie... And this score breaking process continued until we had Jober as the winner. Personally I would have liked to see a shoot-off! Above Photo
