The results are in as the sun sets over Arizona, A challenging time for all the competitors of the 2016 Western Wildcats, a 6400 conventional prone match fired over 4 days. Competitors from all over the country came to compete and support this match held March 16th to the 20th at the Ben Avery Rifle Range in Phoenix Arizona. Members from our very own LAR&R club and former Jr. Team Member, Matt Chezem, put on a good show throughout the competition. Simply put, there was incredible scores posted by incredible shooters! And I am honored to be among these great shooting legends.
Of the competitors from LARR:
Kurt Ingham competed in the mix of “FA” of Scope only shooters and finished strong with a 6353 and 381 X’s
John Giles finished with a score of 6361 and 382 X’s placing 5th in the Master Category
Cameron Keating finished with a score of 6379 and 463 X’s; Cameron earned a 1600 Wildcats sweatshirt from shooting clean on the final day of competition. But was only able to place 13th among the High Master Class.
Jim Gains finished with a 6387 and 483 X’s competing in the Scope only category this earned him the 2nd place title of the FA shooters.
Allen Thomas finished with a score of 6391 and 548 X’s; Allan earned a 3200 sweatshirt cleaning both days of the Any sight competition. And placed 8th in the High Masters.
Matt Chezem (Pictured Left with Nancy Tompkins) scored an amazing 6396 and 546 X’s; Matt would have earned a 1600 Wildcats sweatshirt shooting clean on the second day of competition; however, his amazing shooting during all 4 days of the event gave him the title of Champion of the 2016 Western WildCats!
With all the amazing scores posted by our sling shooters we cannot forget how well our F-Class competitors did: Phill Missouris, Bobby Depasque, and Ray Del Rio. Unfortunately, I do not have the F-Class competitor scores from the Wildcats, so I am unable to comment, But I would like to give Ray Del Rio a special congratulations for Winning the 2016 Metric Nationals F-Class Competition!
