Saturday morning March 28th California’s best marksmen gather to test themselves at the 2015 David Kimes 3 Position and English Prone regional competition.
The day begin with the famous command “Shooters to the line” and within five minutes the firing line was full of experienced shooter waiting to hear their next command. “Your preparation period has ended. Is the Line ready? The line is ready, commence fire”
A little over an hour later we found that our very own Darrell Malstrom won the day in prone with an amazing 564 out of 600 possible points; however, just two points behind was an Air Force sharp shooter, SSgt Rodger Scrivner. Keeping the completion close were George Feucht with a 559 and Sam Thoman with his 558.
As the Prone shooters were packing their gear and headed home after the first day of competition, the three position shooters set up for their next event. Standing. The champion of the first day of standing was Anna Weilbacher, who scored a 377 out of 400 possible points! It was also Anna who would lead the way in the Kneeling event with a 382. Not far behind though were Matt Liao with his 376 besting SSgt Keating from the Air Force shooting team with his 375.
The second day started off nearly the same, except for one minor change. It was any sight day, and that means competitors could proceed to their trusted rifle scope. That’s just what Darrell Malstrom needed to shoot his 586 and take home the Gold Medal! George Feucht just 13 points below in the grand aggregate secured the Silver and SSgt Scrivner won the Bronze.
