2016 CRPA State Championship Prone 3200

6/8/2016

A cool and calm weekend it was… or so the competitors of the 2016 CRPA Smallbore State Championships wished...

Today the winds picked up and took off in all directions.  This made the state championships a challenge for even the best marksmen.  Changing winds kept all the competitors on their best behavior but all of that came to an end after the first stage of the 50 meter match.  Last year’s state champion suffered the greatest defeat losing 13 points here.  Even though the conditions were challenging for every competitor it would seem that Allen Thomas had the solution finishing the day with an amazing 1599 and 121 X’s.  This great score gave Allen a 9-point lead over the nearest competitor Randy Teissedre.
On day two of the state championships Allen held his lead securing another score of 1599 with an impressive 142 X’s in spite of the winds being as challenging as yesterday.  John Giles moved into the silver medal position with his 1595 and 93 X’s and Lt. Col. Mark Gould (USAF Shooting Team) finished the state championships with the Bronze medal shooting a 1593 and 101 X’s.

As for our F-Class competitors we have a tight game with a 2-point separation between Bobby and Mel after completion of the first day.  Bobby Depasque finished with a 1568 and Mel Flint with a 1566, but a two-point lead means little on these hard metric targets if not properly supported.  Mel showed impressive wind reading skills on day two of the championships shooting a score of 1584 while Bobby’s 1554 granted him 2nd place.

I would also like to congratulate our young rising star Anusha Pakkam, a Jr shooter whos dedicated parents drove her all the way down from the San Jose/Sacramento area, so that she would win the California Smallbore Jr. Championships.  With an impressive score of 3141 with 140 X’s.
